Zone 5 Now Open!!

Tadaaaah! We are thrilled to bring you stage one of Zone 5.
7 x brand new trails and associated linking tracks open as of 30 September 2017.

Huge thanks to Northland Regional Council for funding the first stage of Zone 5 Tracks, helping us create even more magic for Northland. Also to Focus Paihia Community Charitable Trust, the Department of Conservation and tangata whenua for making this entire project possible.
Thanks to Bay of Islands ITM for donating all of the materials and labour for the road crossing barriers and to Northland Region Corrections Facility for building the barrier gates. Also to Angus Ross and Cameron Paterson for hand digging in all of the signposts and Bruce Gordon for his support with all of the above too.

ZONE 5 was designed by Jeff Carter/Southstar Trails and built over Winter 2017 by Southstar Trails – Lloyd Jenks & Charlie Makea and Andrew Younger Contracting – Ryan Lovett & Martin Connell.

ZONE 5, the area to the south west of Te Puke Rd, is a whole new vibe for WMBP – built in tall pines, the landscape is vastly different with natural ground and root networks providing challenges not seen in other areas of the Park. Many of the trails are a mix of sculptured features and organic off camber natural sections with plenty of airtime opportunities. The cool shade of the trees and the dappled light, coupled with demon rides and an easy climb, will make this a favourite Summertime destination!

There is currently only one way into Zone 5. Access is from the Sky Summit of Zone 3, near the top of TE RANGI HONONGA. Take the UPPER LINK down from the top to cross Te Puke Rd, TE PITO  will lead you into the Zone 5 magic. There is only one way out of Zone 5 – ATAWHAI – the uphill climb for this zone is the most gentle of all in the park, without a single pinch.

You are going to love Zone Fiiiiiiiive!
Updated maps are now available for sale at the following locations in central Paihia/Kerikeri: Paihia iSITE; Fullers GreatSights; Paihia Mountain Bike Rentals, Bay of Islands Information, Waitangi Holiday Park or Hunter Cycles in Kerikeri.
