Soft Opening This Weekend 15 December 2018
A year in the planning and three months of construction have culminated in magnificent TRAIL HUB facilities at the WAITANGI MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK car park. The WMBP Team have worked tirelessly, both contractors and volunteers, to create a bike park village that stands up to our world class trails. The village includes the WMBP Office, Bike Rental and WMBP Café.
We are thrilled to announce that these premises are now complete and will softly open their doors this Saturday 15 December. There will be a more formal opening and blessing at an event to be organised early in the new year – but as of this Saturday you will be able to rent a bike, take a shuttle, ride world class trails and enjoy great food and coffee too – all at the WAITANGI MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK! What a milestone!
Expressions of interest for the Hub businesses were publicly notified and the successful applicants were PAIHIA MOUNTAIN BIKES/JONNY MARTIN for the rental bike operation and TIPARA & JADE MORUNGA (of LETZ CAFÉ fame) who are operating the WMBP Café. Exciting times for these two local whanau. We wish them every success in their new (ad)ventures.
There is a bit more to come – toilets are being installed next week and a pump track will be built in the new year, although the base is already prepared. This will provide a perfect opportunity to hang at the café while the kids tear up the pump track. We will keep you posted on the progress of this aspect of the project.
The construction of the WMBP Trail Hub village was made possible with funding from the NZ LOTTERIES GRANTS BOARD and the PROVINCIAL GROWTH FUND. Both organisations recognising what an asset WMBP is to our region. It would also not have been possible without the incredible support of local (and not so local) businesses who have contributed materials and services, in kind, or at heavily discounted rates.
